MISCELLANY

ugh, we watched a man die last night on the ultimate field. he was playing on the field next to us, collapsed, and his chest began heaving up and down. his wife, who happened to be the only doctor playing at the location, monitored him while we called 911. suddenly he stopped breathing, and his pulse stopped. an icu nurse helped the wife perform cpr while it took the fire dept 10 minutes, and the ambulance another extra 5 to get there. 35 year-old healthy man. his pupils were dilated and fixed very shortly, so it appears it was a bad internal trauma of some kind. shakes you to the core... i was supposed to go to see radiohead last night, but decided instead to play on the beautiful summer night.

ART

again, i suggest reading the lost painting about caravaggio.

ROTMAN CONFERENCE

one of the more interesting lectures at the rotman lifelong learning day was the one on failure in creative endeavours. some quotes from that presentation:

'fail, fail again, fail better' - samuel beckett

'of the 200 light bulbs that didn't work, every failure to me was something that i was able to incorporate into the next attempt' - thomas edison

'the person who does not make mistakes is unlikely to make anything' - paul arden

'what we call failure is not falling down, but the staying down' - mary pickford
